A Heartshaped Feast

For Valentine's Day we had a heartshaped feast that included:

Heartshaped Meatloaf

Heartshaped Pink Mashed Potatoes

Heartshaped Jello Jigglers 

Heartshaped Butter to go with our rolls

Raspberry Lemonade 

Owen loved the decorations

For dessert we had mini cheesecakes, chocolate mousse, and chocolate covered strawberries-leftovers from the Valentine Dinner we had on Saturday with friends

Our Heartshaped Feast. When I was making the meatloaves they reminded me of real human hearts and no one could figure out what the pink stuff was-Ethan couldn't beleive they were potatoes!

After dinner it was finally time to dig into our Valentine Jars we made 2 weeks ago for FHE. Each day we snuck love notes, treats, and thank you's into the jars. Here is a picture of Ethan's loot.

The best decision I ever made.

Valentine Dinner

A few weeks ago Callie had the idea of doing a special Valentine dinner for our hubbies. We planned the menu and decided to have it on Saturday the 12th since Valentine's Day is on a Monday. My brother was nice enough to watch our 3 boys and their little girl at our house while we had a relaxing dinner at Brody & Callie's house.

Callie made the cute menus and also did a shrimp cocktail and garden salad for apitizers. Our main course was steak, salmon, twice-baked potatoes, and dinner rolls.

For dessert we had chocolate mousse, cheesecake, and chocolate covered strawberries. The time went by quickly and was full of yummy food and fun conversation.

The husbands did the dishes and cleaned up while Callie and I put our kids to bed and sent the babysitter home for some much needed rest.

LoVeR's LaNe: DaY 13

These are three memories all wrapped in one: each time we had the blessing of welcoming a new little life into our family. Each delivery was so different-Ethan was our first and neither of us had any idea what to expect and so many things went wrong, including him being turned the wrong way and taking his sweet time to get here; with Kamden I decided not to have an epidural and I can still remember how great you were to help me get through that when I was ready to give up; Owen's delivery was the easiest of the three but we were anxious to find out if there were any medical issues that had been possible since our ultrasound at 4 months. We have been so blessed with these beautiful, healthy boys and I'm so grateful to have had you by my side each time they came to us.

LoVeR's LaNe: DaY 11

This is from our trip to Portland in 2007-you had to go for work so I tagged along. We drove to Lake Oswego and walked around the temple grounds and went to the Oregon Zoo. We also went on a lunch cruise on the Columbia river and went to the Saturday morning market. It was so beautiful and green everywhere we went and it was nice to get away for a few days. When we were on the cruise there was a grand piano where the guy playing was taking requests-you couldn't remember my favorite love song but for future reference, here it is:

100 Days

Today Ethan's class celebrated the 100th day of school and everyone brought 100 of something. When I asked Ethan what he wanted to take, he said his pillow pet. I had to explain that he didn't have 100 of those and it needed to be something small that he could take in his backpack so we came up with marbles. Some other things that kids brought were: popcorn, M&Ms, goldfish (the crackers, not real ones), Legos, berries, seashells, and rocks. It's crazy that we are about 2/3 of the way through the entire school year but we are looking forward to the summer!

LoVeR's LaNe: DaY 11

This is our first home, a tiny one bedroom apartment with a sad excuse for a Christmas tree-I think the only thing we put on it were the lights, a few candy canes, and 2 ornaments my Aunt gave us. Remember what you got me for our first Christmas? I'd asked for pajama pants and you got me some grey sweats that said "Garfield" across the butt and windshield wipers for my car...which explains why I like to do my own Christmas shopping :) 

We lived next to two women that would fight a lot and even started beating each other up outside our door one night, and the girl that lived above us had 2 yappy little dogs and she left them alone all night while she worked and we would lay there listening to them bark all night long. I vowed I would never live in an apartment again. I did like having a fireplace, though. 

Just over a month after we celebrated our 1st anniversary, Ethan was born and it was no longer just the two of us. We stayed in our apartment about 8 weeks and then moved into our first house that was our very own.

LoVeR's LaNe: DaY 10

I can't remember exactly what you were making when we took this picture, but I would bet that it was breakfast since that's about the only thing you make...you should do that more often :)

You are always so willing to help me around the house, that's one of the things I appreciate most about you. That, and that you make really yummy french toast, scrambled eggs, waffles, and pancakes...

LoVeR's LaNe: DaY 9

While we were dating, my little brother was getting ready to leave on a mission to Italy. I was going camping with my parents and my two younger brothers, so I invited you along. I'm sure you wondered what you had gotten yourself into when you had to share a tent with those two...

We all rode in dad's boat out on the reservoir and he let mom use his fishing pole as she tried her hand at casting. It didn't go over so well when she forgot to hold onto the pole and let go during a cast, flinging it into the water. I don't think anyone knew quite what to say as we watched it sink until it was out of sight.

Be Mine, Valentine...

Yesterday Ethan had to get 2 cavities filled. He did a great job and didn't even flinch when the "mosquitos" gave him a little pinch in his mouth. He sat patiently and stared at the ceiling while "Mr. Whistler" aka "The Drill" went to work getting the cavity bugs out of his mouth. The fact that Ethan sat still is a miracle, considering the horrible experience he had at his first dental appointment (that was a different dentist, one we will NEVER go to again. We LOVE our dentist now and is actually from Jeff's hometown. If anyone would like a referral to a great dentist for adults and kids, we will gladly refer him!) So, Ethan sat as still as could be and let them do their work...until it was time for the fillings. This is probably the easiest part of the whole process but Ethan decided he'd had enough. He told them he didn't like it and he sat up and started to cry, then got out of the chair. They were so good to help me calm him down and it took the dentist promising not one but two prizes and some bribary from me with a trip to the Bronco store afterward. (He picked out the shirt he's wearing in the picture and a golf ball with a Bronco on it.) Thankfully he didn't decide to come home with holes in his teeth and he got right to work getting his Valentine's ready for his Kindergarten class-Transformers for the boys and Tinkerbell for the girls. Does anyone know any fun, easy projects or games we could do for the class party?
