Last Tuesday was a cold, rainy, miserable day...not exactly what you'd expect for summer vacation. So we were pretty excited when our friends invited us to tag along & we went to JumpTime, one of the boys' favorite places.
And a rainy day with friends isn't complete without lunch at McDonalds & running off more energy in the indoor play area.
After lunch the girls came & played for awhile, the boys were sad to see them go but it was a great way to spend a rainy day!
Wednesday we ventured out to the zoo, even though the weather still was a bit chilly but at least it didn't rain on us. Jeff got us a season pass to the zoo so I'm sure we will become well acquainted with all of the animals there. We made the mistake of showing up right at lunch time so we saw a lot of the animals eating...the Serval was tearing into a nice, plump white rabbit and a few other animals had some dead rats laying around for when they needed a snack. It wasn't very appetizing but we still stopped for a picnic of our own, near the playground and out of sight of the hungry zoo animals.
This giant Condor just stood there with it's wings spread out like this. He was so still that people were asking if it was real or a statue...I didn't come to the zoo to look at statues, so I was relieved when it blinked and moved around a bit.
Ethan & Kamden in the Prairie Dog exhibit:
Owen finally got out of the stroller at the petting zoo:
Unfortunately for Kamden, the petting zoo only consisted of goats, sheep, and llamas. There were no dairy cows in sight so his one goal for summer, to milk a cow, still remains unfulfilled...
The Butterfly exhibit is going on now & was one of our favorite parts. This pretty purple one made herself at home on the side of my purse:
Ethan had one land on his back:
And Kamden had one on his head.
Owen didn't get one to land on him, there were lots of crazy kids who's parents were letting them run wild & do pretty much whatever they wanted, despite the zoo workers' telling them not to touch the butterflies. I wouldn't be surprised if a few butterflies lost their lives that day.
My 3 baby chicks:
These two pictures were taken by Ethan:
Thursday we hung out at home building Lego ships, making cookies, and doing laundry. That evening Brian, Sierra, & Vaughn were kind enough to watch our boys while Jeff & I went to dinner & saw Snow White & the Huntsman, which was pretty good for starring Kristen Stewart.
On Friday we invited Vaughn over for a sleepover and watched him Saturday while Brian & Sierra worked & had church obligations. The boys absolutely loved having him here and wouldn't leave the poor kid alone, always wanting to play with him, help get his bottle, or watch him eat his spaghetti baby food (which Owen thought was the grossest thing he's ever seen and kept plugging his nose, but he ate the exact same stuff when he was that age). Vaughn loved going on a bike ride in the bike trailer with Owen & he kept going behind the couch, which only has a few inches between it & the wall. He kept getting stuck but sometimes he would persevere and make it all the way to the other side. When Sierra came to get him Ethan & Kamden were distracted playing the iPad so they didn't know that he left. About 20 minutes later they came out looking for him & we told them we didn't know where he was, we thought he was with them. They hurried through the house frantically looking for him & when Ethan ran out in the backyard yelling for Vaughn we figured we'd better tell them that he'd gone home with his mom. They weren't very happy about that, but I'm sure his parents were missing him.
Besides, they wouldn't help change diapers.
