Weeks of Summer Part 6

My Dad's birthday was July 12 so we celebrated with a family camping trip in Oregon. Last time Jeff & I took the boys camping we froze & I swore I was done with camping...but I guess time has a way of making us forget & I went again. The campground we went to wasn't in the mountains, so it was just as hot there as it was at home...it was kinda miserable at times & we even had a few fans set up to help us cool down. But the grumpy camp host wouldn't let us set up our little swimming pool, so the kids filled a rubber tote & took turns sitting in it. We did some boating & fishing and even had a family tournament of ladder golf with Eric coming in 1st place & Mom a close 2nd. We had yummy foil dinners & celebrated Dad's birthday with cupcakes. On Saturday Logan checked the weather report & saw there was a tornado/hail storm warning for the area we were in. The sky got dark & the wind started as we scrambled around to get everything put away before it got crazy. It calmed down around supper time & we thought we'd seen the worst of it. Late that evening Dad, Jeff, Jeffrey, Logan, Zach, & Joe headed to the river to fish & not long after they left the rain just started POURING down. I've never seen it rain like that before. Thankfully the boys were already asleep & somehow slept through the entire thing. A few of the tents got pretty wet but Jeff had decided to put the rain cover on our tent before he left to fish so we stayed dry. By the time the fishermen made it back to camp they were completely drenched. The mosquitoes were also horrible & no matter how much repellent we used, they still gobbled us up. Poor Owen still has bites & for about 3 days he kept saying "Mommy I'm scratchy."
But we still had a good time & hopefully next year we can come up with somewhere a little more pleasant/less-mosquito-infested.
Jeff had to work out of town Monday-Wednesday & the boys all had stomach aches most of the week. Ethan was throwing up Monday & Tuesday so we spent a lot of time laying around watching movies. By Thursday everyone seemed to be better & we got ready to celebrate Owen's 3rd birthday. On Saturday we went to the zoo & on the way back Kamden puked all over the back of the suburban...it's at the shop getting detailed today so hopefully the puke smell gets taken care of. At least the seats are leather so they can be wiped off, but the carpet on the floor is another story.
So we did our best to clean up what we could & got Kamden in the shower, then put him to bed before everyone showed up for the party. We had a BBQ followed by cake & ice cream, then swimming at the subdivision pool. Kamden was feeling much better & he came along & finally tried out the deep end of the pool & discovered that he actually can swim. Both he & Ethan have basically taught themselves how to swim this summer all on their own.
Owen had a great birthday & for weeks he's been telling me he wants a Spiderman cake with Green Goblin. Well, we just went with Spiderman because I didn't want to mess with Green Goblin, I guess I'm getting lazy in my old age...Just before his party he told me he wanted a Batman cake instead, by then it was too late & there was no going back. But he forgot all about Batman when it was time to blow out candles & open presents.
Both sets of Grandparents came to the party along with Uncle Ryan, Aunt Charly, Uncle Jeff, Uncle Wade, & Aunt Lauren. It was so different from his last birthday when we were in Orofino & it was just the 5 of us to celebrate. Once again, we are so grateful for the way everything has worked out & to be able to live so close to most of our family. Thanks to everyone who came!
I can't even explain what a blessing Owen is to our family, he has been such a fun, sweet little boy. It seems impossible that he is already 3 & it feels like we just brought him home from the hospital, all 9.3 pounds of him, with those chubby cheeks & beautiful brown eyes.
 We love you, Squishy!
